MPKS Advances Sustainable Development with SDGs Roadmap Session

KOTA SAMARAHAN – The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development by organising a Voluntary Local Review (VLR) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Roadmap Preparation Session at the Sarawak Farmers’ Association Hall.

The session aimed to strengthen collective understanding and commitment towards implementing the SDGs through a structured, inclusive, and community-focused approach.

Discussions centred on inclusive social development, effective governance, and environmental conservation, aligning with both national and global aspirations for sustainable growth.

MPKS highlighted that the VLR process is crucial in assessing current achievements, identifying gaps, and formulating a clearer and more impactful roadmap.

This ensures that every development initiative provides tangible benefits to local communities while balancing urban progress with environmental sustainability.

Participants engaged in focused discussions and constructive exchanges of ideas, creating opportunities for closer collaboration between local authorities, implementing agencies, and grassroots communities.

The interactive format was designed to foster shared responsibility in achieving resilient urban development.

Municipal Chairman Kr Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, who officiated the session, emphasised the importance of embedding sustainability principles into local governance.

He noted that the roadmap will serve as a guiding framework for MPKS to implement development strategies that are inclusive, environmentally responsible, and responsive to community needs.

The initiative reflects MPKS’s broader agenda to integrate sustainability into municipal planning, ensuring that Kota Samarahan continues to grow as a resilient and forward-looking urban centre.

By aligning with the SDGs, the council aims to position itself as a model for local authorities in Sarawak, demonstrating how structured planning and community engagement can drive meaningful progress.
