PADAWAN – The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has taken further steps to address waste management concerns by distributing 32 individual bins to business operators at the 7th Mile Commercial Centre on 8 May 2026.
The initiative forms part of the Council’s wider programme to support the local business community in maintaining cleanliness and curbing illegal dumping.
According to MPP, the bins were provided both as replacements for stolen or damaged units and as new allocations to ensure that every business has access to proper waste disposal facilities.
Council Chairman Cr. Tan Kai emphasised that the bins are considered assets entrusted to the recipients, who are expected to take responsibility for their upkeep.
He reminded business owners that maintaining the condition of the bins is essential to sustaining a clean and orderly environment within the commercial centre.
The distribution reflects MPP’s ongoing commitment to improving public hygiene standards in Padawan. Illegal dumping has been a recurring issue in several commercial areas, often leading to unsightly surroundings and health risks.
By equipping businesses with adequate waste disposal infrastructure, the Council aims to reduce such practices and encourage proper waste management.
Members of the public have also been urged to remain vigilant. MPP advised residents and visitors to report any problems relating to the bins, including theft or damage, either directly to the council or to Trienekens, the waste management company responsible for collection services in the area.
This collaborative approach is intended to strengthen community involvement in safeguarding public assets and ensuring effective waste disposal.
The 7th Mile Commercial Centre is one of Padawan’s busiest trading hubs, with a high volume of daily activity.
Proper waste management is therefore critical to maintaining a clean environment for both business operators and customers.
The Council’s move to provide new bins is expected to ease the burden on traders while reinforcing the importance of shared responsibility in keeping public spaces clean.
This latest initiative builds on MPP’s broader strategy to enhance urban cleanliness and promote civic responsibility.
By working closely with businesses and the public, the Council hopes to foster a culture of care and accountability that benefits the wider community.
