KUCHING – Agencies under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development (MUDeNR) have been reminded to fully embrace the ministry’s vision and mission as guiding principles in their daily work, decision-making and service delivery.
Permanent Secretary Datu Abdullah Julaihi said the ministry’s aspiration is not merely to function on routine, but to grow into an organisation defined by excellence and effectiveness.
He stressed that excellence must be a shared value across all agencies under MUDeNR, including the Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS), Sarawak Forest Department, Land Development and Conservation Board (LCDA), Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (PUSAKA), Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB).
“Excellence means we cannot tolerate mediocrity. In our thinking, behaviour and work outcomes, we must demand excellence. To excel means our efforts create real value and impact, shaping the direction of the state rather than merely reacting to events,” he said during the MUDeNR Permanent Secretary’s Day ceremony in Kuching on Tuesday.
In his address, Abdullah highlighted the importance of leadership values such as trust, consistency, justice and integrity. He explained that integrity is demonstrated when words are matched by actions, especially under pressure.
“When people trust us, they will give their full commitment, cooperate openly and carry out their duties with confidence,” he added.
He also urged staff to focus on meaningful tasks that add value, rather than being preoccupied with routine work that does not contribute to progress. Public service, he said, must always be anchored in the rule of law, good governance and accountability.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Sarawak Forest Director Datu Hamden Mohammad, Sarawak JTS Director Datu Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood, LCDA General Manager Datu Sr Zaidi Mahdi, PUSAKA General Manager Datu Zainal Abidin Abdullah, Environmental Quality Controller Datu Jack Liam and SFC Chief Executive Officer Abang Arabi Abang Aimran.
Abdullah further encouraged staff to cultivate a mindset of continuous improvement through the practice of “Rethink, Revisit and Recharge”. He said this approach would strengthen organisational effectiveness and ensure agencies remain relevant in meeting the needs of the people of Sarawak.
By embedding excellence, integrity and trust into their operations, MUDeNR agencies are expected to play a key role in shaping Sarawak’s future development while maintaining public confidence in government institutions.
