Minister Mustapha Sakmud Arrives in Kuching for Official Visit

KUCHING – On Sunday, 23 February 2026, YB Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak), arrived at Kuching International Airport to commence official duties in Sarawak.

The minister was welcomed by Tuan Haji Mohamad Anuardi Hajani, Deputy Secretary of the Sarawak Federal Secretary’s Office. His arrival was also attended by Tuan Haji Abdul Halim Abang Naili, Director of the Malaysian Immigration Department for Sarawak.

The visit forms part of the minister’s ongoing engagement with state-level agencies and stakeholders, reflecting the federal government’s commitment to strengthening administrative coordination between Sabah, Sarawak, and Putrajaya.

Officials noted that the presence of senior representatives from both the Federal Secretary’s Office and the Immigration Department underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration in supporting the minister’s agenda.

The welcoming ceremony at Kuching International Airport highlighted the close working relationship between federal and state institutions.

The Prime Minister’s Department has emphasised that such visits are crucial in ensuring that policies and programmes are effectively implemented across both East Malaysian states.

The minister’s role includes overseeing matters related to federal-state relations, administrative efficiency, and the delivery of government services.

The Sarawak Federal Secretary’s Office issued a press release confirming the minister’s arrival and outlining the significance of his official business in Kuching.

While specific details of his engagements were not disclosed, the visit is expected to involve discussions with state officials and agencies on matters of governance and development.

This official trip comes at a time when federal authorities are seeking to enhance cooperation with Sarawak, particularly in areas of immigration, infrastructure, and administrative support.

The presence of the Immigration Department’s state director at the welcoming ceremony further highlights the relevance of cross-border and regulatory matters in the minister’s agenda.

The minister’s arrival marks another step in ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between the federal government and Sarawak, ensuring that national policies are aligned with local priorities and that administrative challenges are addressed collaboratively.
