National Science Week 2025 Launches with 300,000 Target Nationwide

KUCHING, 4 May 2025 – The National Science Week (MSN) 2025 has officially kicked off at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Samarahan, with an ambitious target of drawing in 300,000 participants from all corners of Malaysia. Despite its name, the event will run for six months, bringing science and innovation to both urban and rural communities.

Launched by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Chang Lih Kang, the program aims to spark interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among school students, especially in remote and less accessible areas.

“This is not just a one-week event. It’s a long-term initiative that lasts until the end of the year. We want to make science exciting and accessible, especially for the younger generation,” said Chang during a press conference held after the launch.

This year’s edition will be held across six main locations in Malaysia, while special efforts are being made to reach out to rural students through the Borneo Science Trip. The tour will cover 30 schools – 14 in Sarawak and 16 in Sabah – with an estimated impact on 30,000 students.

“The science exhibition tour will bring hands-on tools and demonstrations to the rural and hinterland schools, so children in these areas are not left behind in the scientific wave,” he added.

Although the activities in each location will follow a similar theme, adjustments will be made to cater to the needs and logistics of the respective regions. These events include science exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, and interactive learning sessions.

Last year, the cumulative participation for the National Science Week was 1.8 million, showcasing the growing interest and potential in Malaysia’s science and technology sector.

Organised annually by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the program is designed to promote a culture of science among Malaysians, with a strong focus on youth empowerment. — UKAS EDITION
