KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, hosted an official courtesy call from the state’s new top police officer at the Astana Negeri on Monday.
The visit marked the first formal introduction between the Head of State and CP Datuk Mohamad Zainal bin Haji Abdullah since his appointment as Sarawak Police Commissioner on 26 September.
During the meeting at the state palace, the newly installed Commissioner conveyed his dedication to reinforcing the strategic partnership between the Sarawak Contingent of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the State Government. This collaboration is viewed as fundamental to preserving the security, harmony, and general welfare of the state’s populace.
Tun Pehin Sri, in his response, underscored the critical importance of upholding the highest standards of conduct within the police force. He urged all personnel to consistently adhere to the core principles of integrity, professionalism, and justice in the discharge of their duties.
The Governor further advocated for a prudent approach grounded in strong human values when officers interact with the public and exercise their authority. He expressed his firm belief that under the fresh leadership of CP Datuk Mohamad Zainal, the Sarawak PDRM would continue to enhance its operational capabilities.
This increased effectiveness is considered vital for addressing a spectrum of contemporary security threats. Specific challenges highlighted during the discussion included the growing concerns of cybercrime, the persistent issue of drug abuse, and the ongoing necessity of securing the state’s borders.
The high-level gathering was also attended by several senior officers from the Sarawak Police Contingent. Among those present were the Head of the Sarawak Special Branch Department, SAC Mahbub Mustofa bin Norsalim, and the Head of the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Mustafa Kamal Gani bin Abdullah.
Also in attendance was the Head of the Sarawak Commercial Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Maria anak Rasid. The presence of these department heads signified the collective commitment of the state’s police leadership to the discussed objectives.
Concluding the audience, Tun Pehin Sri extended his gratitude to all members of the Sarawak PDRM for their unwavering dedication and sacrifices. He acknowledged their crucial role in maintaining peace and public order throughout the state, ensuring a safe environment for all residents.
