Ngemah Constituency Distributes RM557,000 in Grants

KANOWIT – A total of eighty recipients in the Ngemah constituency have been allocated development grants amounting to RM557,000. The funds, distributed under the Rural Small Project Grant (MRP) scheme, are intended to support local community initiatives and infrastructure improvements.

The beneficiaries include representatives from Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK)Parents and Teachers Associations (PIBG), and various clubs and non-governmental organisations. The handover ceremony was presided over by the area’s elected representative, Anyi Jana.

In his address, the Ngemah State Assemblyman stressed that the committees receiving the allocations have a responsibility to manage the funds with utmost prudence. He emphasised that the money must be used effectively to ensure the wider community feels the tangible benefits of the projects undertaken.

He called for transparency from the recipient committees, urging them to keep local residents informed about the budget and its intended uses. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of careful planning and execution to maximise the positive impact on the populace.

The MRP is a crucial source of funding for small-scale development projects in rural areas. These grants often finance essential amenities and community facilities that might otherwise be delayed due to larger bureaucratic procurement processes.

During the event, the Assemblyman also took the opportunity to appeal for ongoing political support for the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition. He argued that consistent backing for the state government is fundamental to ensuring the continuity of development programmes in the region.

He pointed out that rural constituencies like Ngemah still require significant investment in basic infrastructure and public facilities. Sustained support for the government, he added, is directly linked to the successful implementation of these vital development plans for the people’s welfare.

The ceremony was attended by several local community leaders and administrative officials. Among those present were a representative of the Kanowit District OfficerCasseylia BenetPemanca Charlie Salang, and Penghulu Pree Minggat.

Also in attendance was Ramba Resang, the Ngemah Division Deputy Chairman of the Sarawak People’s Party (PRS), a component party of the GPS coalition. The presence of these figures underscored the collaborative nature of local governance and development efforts.

This distribution of funds is part of the state government’s broader strategy to address developmental disparities between urban and rural areas. By empowering local committees, the authorities aim to ensure that resources are directed where they are most needed and can have the greatest immediate effect.
