NNC Band Rocks to Victory at Lingga Regatta BOTB 2025

LINGGA – The Battle of the Bands (BOTB) 2025 proved to be the highlight of this year’s Lingga Regatta Festival, showcasing the energy and creativity of Sarawak’s local rock scene.

The competition reached its peak when legendary Malaysian rock vocalist Joey, from the iconic Bumiputera Rockers (BPR), took to the stage.

His powerful performance of BPR classics thrilled thousands of spectators, lifting the atmosphere and inspiring the competing musicians.

In the finals, NNC Band emerged as champion with a dynamic and polished set that impressed both the judges and the audience.

Their victory placed them ahead of Opera C Band, who secured second place, while Chromatic Band finished in third.

This year’s BOTB began with 11 bands in the qualifying rounds, narrowing down to eight finalists. The competition not only celebrated musical talent but also recognised individual excellence.

Alexius Paul of NNC Band was awarded Best Bass Player, while his bandmate Rickinson Ancher received the Best Drum Player title.

Other awards included Best Vocal, presented to Hamzah Sandi of Zurin Jass, and Best Guitar, which was shared between Mohd Kerdari of Carma Band and Garvin Gibson of Chromatic Band.

Consolation prizes were given to Zurin Jass, Carma Band, Rocky Labu, Double Se, and Qasthia Band, acknowledging their strong performances.

The judging panel was led by renowned Malaysian composer Patrick Kamis, alongside Abd. Rahman Ali and Jue Mahmud, ensuring professional evaluation of the contestants.

Organisers described the BOTB as a major entertainment highlight of the Lingga Regatta, reinforcing the festival’s reputation as a cultural and tourism attraction.

The event not only entertained visitors but also provided a platform for local musicians to showcase their skills, creativity and passion for rock music.

With the success of NNC Band and the electrifying presence of Joey BPR, the BOTB 2025 has set a new benchmark for future editions, further cementing Lingga Regatta’s role as a celebration of both tradition and modern artistry.
