49 Entities Get MRP, 5 Houses of Worship Receive UNIFOR Grant in DUN Opar

LUNDU – A total of 49 associations, NGOs, and kindergartens in the Opar state constituency have received RM405,600 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants, while five non-Islamic religious institutions were awarded RM720,000 under the UNIFOR grant scheme, in a ceremony held on Friday.

The grant handover ceremony was officiated by Opar State Assemblyman (ADUN), Billy Sujang, as part of the state’s third-phase MRP and UNIFOR disbursement programme for the year 2025.

The ceremony reflects the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to uplifting rural communities and promoting religious harmony through inclusive development and equal opportunity for all religions and races.

The MRP recipients include:

  • Various associations
  • Non-governmental organisations (NGOs)
  • KEMAS kindergartens in the P192 Mas Gading parliamentary area

Meanwhile, the five UNIFOR grant recipients are:

  • Apostolic Believers Association of Kuching, Sebako Village
  • St. Jacob Chapel, Temaga Dayak Village
  • St. George Church, Bokah Village
  • St. Jude Church, Stom Muda Village
  • Traditional House, Semapu Village

“The Sarawak Government is always attentive to the needs of communities, especially in rural areas. This includes recognising and supporting non-Islamic religious institutions as part of our inclusive development philosophy,” said Billy.

He added that the support for grassroots development and interfaith harmony is central to the values upheld by Sarawak, a state long praised for its peaceful multicultural coexistence.

The event was attended by representatives from government agencies, community leaders, and grant recipients.
