Opar Assembly Strengthens Rural Roads and Bridges for Community Growth

LUNDU – Rural infrastructure development remains a central focus in the Opar State Assembly (DUN), with ongoing projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, supporting local economic activities and improving the daily lives of residents.

Opar State Assemblyman Billy Sujang carried out a site inspection on Monday, visiting several key projects in Kampung Pasir Hulu and Kampung Sebako 2.

His visit underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring that rural communities benefit from improved facilities and communication networks.

One of the main initiatives reviewed was the Benjay Agricultural Road Upgrading Project Phase 2 in Kampung Pasir Hulu, valued at RM250,000.

Implemented by the Sarawak Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), the project is designed to ease the transportation of agricultural produce and improve mobility for residents, particularly farmers who rely on reliable road access for their livelihoods.

Billy also inspected the Rantau Panjang Road Upgrading Project and the Opar State House-to-House Road Paving Project Phase 2, ensuring that construction adhered to the planned scope of work and met quality standards.

These projects are expected to provide safer and more efficient routes for villagers, contributing to better accessibility and community development.

In addition, the Assemblyman attended the site blessing ceremony for the Kampung Sebako 2 Bridge Construction Project.

The bridge is anticipated to serve as a vital link, strengthening the village’s communication network and supporting both economic and social activities.

Local leaders believe the project will be a catalyst for growth, enabling smoother connections between communities and markets.

Billy reaffirmed his dedication to advancing rural infrastructure in Opar, stressing that development will be carried out in stages and comprehensively to ensure long-term benefits for residents.

He emphasised that these projects are not only about physical improvements but also about empowering communities to thrive economically and socially.

The initiatives reflect Sarawak’s broader rural development agenda, which prioritises accessibility, sustainability and inclusivity.

By investing in roads, bridges and communication networks, the state aims to uplift rural communities, reduce disparities and create opportunities for growth.

With these projects underway, Opar continues to strengthen its position as a model for rural development in Sarawak, demonstrating how infrastructure investment can directly enhance the well-being of local people.
