SEBAKONG – The Civil Defence Force (APM) Selangau and APM Sibu joined forces on Saturday, 4 April 2026, to carry out Operation Kemarau, a clean water distribution initiative in the Ulu Sebakong area of Mukah.
The operation was organised to assist residents struggling with water shortages caused by the ongoing drought season.
The coordinated effort involved logistics support and manpower from both APM units, alongside contributions from suppliers and other agencies.
The distribution of clean water was conducted smoothly, ensuring affected households received immediate relief.
The operation was supported by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) Mukah, Mukah Police and Selangau Police, whose cooperation ensured the process remained orderly and efficient.
Their involvement highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing environmental challenges that directly impact communities.
Residents in Ulu Sebakong have faced increasing difficulties due to prolonged dry conditions, with limited access to clean water affecting daily routines and health.
The timely intervention provided much-needed assistance, easing the burden on families and reinforcing the government’s commitment to safeguarding rural communities.
Local authorities emphasised that such operations are vital in mitigating the effects of drought, particularly in areas where infrastructure constraints make water supply vulnerable.
By pooling resources and expertise, agencies were able to deliver aid effectively and maintain public confidence.
Community members expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that the clean water distribution brought immediate relief during a period of hardship.
The success of Operation Kemarau also demonstrated the resilience of local communities and the dedication of emergency services in ensuring public welfare.
APM Selangau and APM Sibu reaffirmed their readiness to continue supporting residents through similar operations should drought conditions persist.
Officials stressed that maintaining strong partnerships with welfare agencies and law enforcement is key to ensuring effective delivery of aid during crises.
As Sarawak continues to experience dry weather, authorities are monitoring the situation closely and stand prepared to implement further measures to protect affected communities.
The operation serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness, cooperation and community solidarity in overcoming environmental challenges.
