Ops Gegar: 40 Foreigners Caught in Miri KTV Immigration Raid

MIRI, 9 May 2025 A major raid was conducted last night at a popular entertainment centre in Miri under the integrated enforcement operation known as Ops Gegar. The operation was carried out by the Immigration Enforcement Unit, Miri Branch, in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

The raid, which took place at around 10.00pm, involved 29 immigration officers and four police personnel from the Special Branch. The targeted premises was a well-known karaoke centre (KTV) suspected of offering illegal foreign entertainment services.

During the operation, officers screened 50 individuals present at the premises. From the inspection, a total of 40 foreigners were detained. Among them were 33 foreign women from China, Vietnam, and the Philippines, as well as seven male Indonesian nationals.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the detained individuals were involved in various immigration offences. These included misuse of social visit passes, overstaying their permitted period in Malaysia, and failing to produce valid travel documents.

All detainees were brought to the Bekenu Immigration Depot for further investigation. Legal actions will be taken under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

The Immigration Department of Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to continue strict enforcement against any activities that violate Malaysian immigration laws. Operations like Ops Gegar aim to protect national security and uphold the integrity of Malaysian borders.
