KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak has intensified enforcement under Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2026 by employing disguise tactics, including officers posing as bus passengers.
This approach proved effective when a bus driver was caught using a mobile phone while driving, a serious offence that endangers passengers and other road users.
The incident highlights the risks posed by negligence, particularly during festive seasons when traffic volume and reliance on public transport are at their peak.
JPJ Sarawak has made clear that it will not tolerate unsafe practices among public service vehicle drivers. Officials stressed that strict legal action will be taken against offenders to ensure compliance with road safety regulations.
The department reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the public through continuous enforcement, close monitoring and proactive measures.
By adopting innovative strategies such as undercover inspections, JPJ aims to strengthen its oversight and ensure that drivers uphold the highest standards of responsibility.
Authorities emphasised that the safety of passengers must remain the top priority, especially during Hari Raya when thousands of people depend on buses and other public transport to travel across the state.
Community leaders and transport operators have welcomed JPJ’s proactive stance, noting that such measures build public confidence in the safety of long-distance travel.
The department’s actions also serve as a reminder to drivers that negligence will not be overlooked.
Ops HRA 2026 continues to operate across Sarawak, combining traditional enforcement with new tactics to ensure that festive journeys are safe, smooth and well-regulated.
The initiative reflects JPJ’s broader mission to protect road users and maintain order during peak travel seasons.
