Ops Sapu: Sarawak Immigration Cracks Down on Illegal Workers in Mukah

MUKAH, Oct 28: The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) Sarawak continues its aggressive efforts to combat illegal immigration with another large-scale enforcement sweep under “Ops Sapu”, carried out in the Balingian area early Tuesday morning.

The operation, which began around 1.00am, was led by the Special Action Team (Pasukan Tindakan Khas) from JIM Sarawak and involved a total of 18 enforcement officers. Their main focus was to inspect two factories believed to be employing a number of foreign workers.

During the inspection, officers conducted detailed checks on documentation and work permits to ensure all foreign nationals were legally employed. The operation was part of JIM’s continuous strategy to identify and take action against employers and individuals violating Malaysia’s immigration laws.

A spokesperson from JIM Sarawak stated that the department will continue to intensify enforcement across the state, especially in industrial and plantation areas where the presence of illegal immigrants is suspected to be higher.

“Our focus remains on ensuring every foreign worker in Sarawak complies with the law. We will not compromise when it comes to national security and sovereignty,” the spokesperson said.

The department also reminded employers to take responsibility and verify the validity of their foreign workers’ documents to avoid legal action. Those who harbour or employ illegal immigrants can face severe penalties, including fines and imprisonment under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Ops Sapu is part of the government’s ongoing effort to maintain order, safeguard job opportunities for Malaysians, and ensure that all foreign workers in the state contribute positively within the legal framework.

The public is encouraged to report suspicious activities involving undocumented migrants to the nearest immigration office to support these national security efforts.
