Leading the operation was JPJ Sarawak Director, YBrs. Tuan Norizan Jili, who personally inspected the field implementation. He observed not only the enforcement activities but also took part in checking the conditions and safety features of the buses.

“Our goal is not just to enforce the law. Seatbelt use is about protecting lives. Many passengers still overlook its importance, especially on long-distance express buses,” said Tuan Norizan during the operation.

He added that this initiative will be carried out consistently, especially during festive seasons and holiday periods when passenger traffic is high. The inspection covered both the front and rear seatbelts and included immediate action against bus operators failing to comply.

Also joining the enforcement team was Puan Fifi Suhesty Asmuni, Head of JPJ Miri Branch. Her presence underlines the department’s strong commitment to road user safety in Sarawak.

JPJ reminds all public transport passengers that wearing a seatbelt is not an option—it is a life-saving necessity. Bus operators are urged to educate and remind passengers of this requirement before every journey.

This operation is expected to expand to other major towns and cities in Sarawak in the coming months. — JPJ Negeri Sarawak
