Otakyun 2025 Brings Anime and Cosplay Fever to Kuching

Otakyun 2025 Brings Anime and Cosplay Fever to Kuching

Otakyun 2025 Draws Over 5,000 Fans in Kuching — Sarawak’s Biggest Cosplay Celebration Yet

KUCHING — The much-awaited Otakyun 2025, Sarawak’s largest anime and cosplay convention, concluded with great success at the New City Theatre Hotel, drawing an impressive crowd of fans, creators, and performers over its two-day run.

Held on 1 and 2 November 2025, the annual event — organised by GEKI — united anime enthusiasts, cosplayers, gamers, artists, and pop culture followers from all across Malaysia and neighbouring countries. The convention has grown into one of the biggest Anime, Comics & Games (ACG) gatherings in East Malaysia, celebrating creativity and community spirit.

This year’s Otakyun featured a rich lineup of activities, from live performances and competitions to workshops and exclusive meet-and-greet sessions. Themed “Yōkai” the event ran from morning till night, transforming the venue into a lively hub of colour, music, and energy.

Day 1 opened with the Hyakki Yagyō Cos-Parade and Idol Competition, followed by stage performances from The Band Lab, Malaysia Wotagei Club, and 2RYA. The night concluded with the Otakyun! Saikou Fest: Blazin Night Concert, headlined by Rina Hime, KLP48, and 2RYA, which kept the crowd cheering until the end.

Adding to the excitement were well-known guest cosplayersHiru, DJ Haru, and Thames Malerose — who made special appearances throughout the weekend. Their exclusive Private Tea Time Session drew a huge number of fans eager to meet and interact with them in person.

Day 2 carried the momentum with vibrant performances by Pieridae, CTZ, B-Sidetrack, and Fluffy Gem, along with the Cosplay Skit Competition and Theme Art Award Ceremony. The festival reached its grand finale with an energetic DJ session by DJ Haru, KLP48, capping off a weekend filled with talent, culture, and unforgettable moments.

Organiser GEKI expressed appreciation for the overwhelming response, saying Otakyun has become a platform that celebrates Sarawak’s creative potential and connects local artists with the wider ACG community.

With the success of Otakyun 2025, Kuching has once again proven itself as the heart of East Malaysia’s cosplay and anime scene — and fans are already looking forward to Otakyun 2026.
