KUCHING – The iconic Great White Cat Statue in Padungan was illuminated in a festive ceremony marking Hari Raya, attended by Deputy Premier of Sarawak, YB Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian and MBKS Mayor, Dato Wee Hong Seng.
The lighting of the landmark symbolised unity and togetherness during the festive season, drawing attention from residents and visitors alike. The event highlighted the importance of cultural harmony in Sarawak, where diverse communities gather to celebrate shared traditions.
Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised that Hari Raya is not only about food, attire, or festivities, but also about strengthening bonds among families and neighbours. He noted that peace and stability allow communities to celebrate in harmony, reminding attendees that unity is the foundation of a strong nation.
“We gather in peace today because of the stability we share. Let’s cherish that. A strong, united nation begins with us, standing together, supporting one another, and building a future we can all be proud of,” he said during the ceremony.
The Great White Cat Statue, a well-known Kuching landmark, has long been associated with the city’s identity. Its illumination during festive occasions has become a symbolic gesture of inclusivity, reflecting the city’s reputation as a melting pot of cultures.
