The Sarawak-born athlete, who has long been a national icon in aquatic sports, made the heartfelt announcement just two days after pulling out from the 10m Platform Synchronised event. The decision, according to her, was made after careful evaluation of her current health condition, particularly her left shoulder, which has not fully healed.

“With a heavy heart but a clear mind, I’ve made the difficult decision to withdraw. My injury has not recovered enough for me to compete safely and at my best,” said Pandelela in a personal statement.

Pandelela, 32, is no stranger to the podium and has flown the Malaysian flag high across numerous international platforms, including the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games. Her withdrawal, though disappointing to fans, is widely respected as a responsible move that prioritises athlete welfare.

She also took time to thank her supporters, adding:

“I’m truly grateful for all the kind messages and concern. I promise to take better care of my body and focus on healing, so I can return stronger for the next opportunity to represent Malaysia.”

While she won’t be competing, Pandelela pledged her full support for her fellow Malaysian divers still competing in Singapore. She urged Malaysians to continue cheering for the national team as they strive to bring home medals.

“Please join me in sending them your support, luck, and prayers as they continue to compete for Malaysia,” she said.

This update serves as a reminder of the physical demands elite athletes face and the importance of timely recovery and mental strength in professional sports.
