Pasir Gudang Mayor Applauds Sarawakian Contributions During Visit

KUCHING – Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Openg, on Monday hosted a delegation from the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) led by its Mayor, Dato’ Mustaffa Kamal Shamsudin.

The courtesy visit, held at the Satria Pertiwi Complex, served to acknowledge the significant and long-standing contributions of Sarawakians to the development of the industrial city in Johor. During the meeting, Dato’ Mustaffa expressed his gratitude for the integral role Sarawakians have played in Pasir Gudang’s economic expansion since the early 1980s.

He noted that their involvement has evolved beyond foundational industries like manufacturing and housing into diverse fields of business and services, strengthening the city’s economic fabric.

“Today, their role is expanding because it is not only limited to the manufacturing, commercial and housing development industries, but more and more people are expanding their economic wings by being active in various business and service disciplines,” Dato’ Mustaffa stated.

He also highlighted the academic success of the younger generation of Sarawakians, many of whom are pursuing higher education at institutions including Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). The discussion also encompassed Sarawak’s forward-thinking economic strategies.

The mayor showed keen interest in the state’s ventures into green technology, including the production of methanol, ammonia, hydrogen, and floating solar energy. These initiatives are seen as pivotal for creating high-income employment and advancing the state’s agenda for free higher education and improved household incomes.

Accompanying the mayor were several key MBPG officials, including Deputy Secretary Nor Rahman Mustaffa, Mayor’s Special Duties Officer Dr. Norlina Muhammad, Council Member Norizam Shah Md Yunus, and Public Health and Environment Director Muhammad Razif Ramlan.
