KUCHING, 18 April 2025 – In a meaningful celebration of Hari Polis ke-218, members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Sarawak Contingent held a special Hindu prayer ceremony at Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Mount Matang, Kuching.
The event, which began at 9.55am, welcomed senior officers and PDRM members along with their families. Dressed in traditional Indian attire, attendees came together in a spirit of unity and devotion.
The religious rituals started with Abishegam and Alangaram at 10am, followed by the Vishesha Poojai at 12pm. A key part of the event was the Sankalpam, a special prayer offered for the safety and wellbeing of all PDRM personnel across Malaysia. After this, Archanai prayers and prasadam distribution took place, ending with the presentation of a ‘Ponnadai’ (golden shawl) and souvenir to the temple chairman, Mr. Vaithilingam Palanisami.
Lunch (Annathanam) was served to all participants – a meaningful act in Hindu tradition that reflects gratitude and the sharing of blessings.
Among those present were high-ranking officers including ASP Muttiah Pillai, ASP Tulasi Thasan Sinnavan, and Insp P. Narendradevan, along with over 25 other PDRM Indian officers. Notable community leaders such as Kamlesh Asnani, and Mr. Krishna Rao from ISKCON also attended.
ASP Muttiah Pillai A/L VP Sinnathambi, who led the programme, thanked everyone involved. “I truly appreciate all who worked hard to make this happen. This ceremony is not only about spiritual prayer but also a symbol of unity. It reflects the true harmony among us as Sarawakians,”.
As a continuation of the celebration, the PDRM Sarawak Hindu Contingent will be organising a food donation programme on 25 April 2025 at Cheshire Home, Kuching. Officers and members will donate meals to 80 residents. The menu includes nasi biryani, chicken curry, pickled cucumbers, and pappadam.
This act of giving, known as Annathanam, is not just about feeding the hungry – it is a spiritual practice believed to invite divine blessings and positive karma.
Such initiatives reflect PDRM’s commitment to cultural inclusivity, community outreach, and spiritual values, especially during important national milestones like Police Day.
