LONG BANGA – YBhg. Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. The Second Series Project Empowerment The visit was continued by Dr Cassidy Morris with an inspection at the Sungai Peluan Bridge in Baram on 4 March.
The visit was part of a broader drive to check the status of multiple bridge repair and replacement works in the Baram hinterland.
There are even projects such as the Sungai Merawa Bridge or the Sungai Balong Bridge along the Banga-Bario route that enhance safety and connectivity for rural communities.
The programme aims to replace decaying wooden and broken dowel structures with new iron bridges. Officials said the upgrades are meant to create safer, more efficient and more resilient transport links for residents and travellers moving in from the interior.
The Peluan Bridge officially opened to the public after its completion. Local communities are already seeing the benefits of enhanced access that bolsters communication infrastructure in the Baram region and supports both economic and social activities.
Dr Cassidy stated that the empowerment visits are meant to ensure that project implementation is done according to specifications and timelines during the inspection.
He added that the government is still committed to providing infrastructure that meets rural population needs while complying with safety and quality standards.
The initiative embodies Sarawak’s long-term approach to furthering rural progress via strategic investment in vital infrastructure.
Better road and bridge networks are viewed as vital for linking remote settlements, enabling trade access to education, healthcare and other services.
Long Banga community leaders received news of the Peluan Bridge completion with excitement, as they consider it a milestone in modernising transport facilities in the interior.
They emphasised that reliable infrastructure is essential to lessening isolation and fostering sustainable growth in the region.
The Public Works Department (JKR) has promised to keep track of developments on other bridges in Baram and ensure that construction runs smoothly so that the benefit reaches the residents without any hindrance.
These empowerment visits will continue as an important tool for ensuring accountability and that the rural development projects are meeting their hope.
