KUCHING, Jan 12 — The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak marked an important administrative milestone today with the official transition and handover of duties of its Permanent Secretary. The session took place at the Mulu Meeting Hall, Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts (MTCP) Office, and was conducted in a formal and orderly manner in line with established civil service practices.
The transition saw Datu Sherrina binti Hussaini officially handing over her responsibilities to Mr. Morshidi bin Fredrick, who has been appointed as the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry. The session was held to ensure continuity in leadership and to maintain the steady implementation of policies, programmes and strategic plans under the ministry’s portfolio.
Such transition sessions are a long-standing practice in the Sarawak Civil Service, reflecting the importance of accountability, transparency and institutional memory. By formally transferring duties and responsibilities, the ministry aims to safeguard ongoing initiatives, particularly those related to tourism development, creative industries growth and the promotion of performing arts across Sarawak.
The session was attended by Mr. Julin bin Alen, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, along with heads of divisions and officers from various departments. Their presence underscored the collective responsibility of senior management and staff in supporting the new leadership while continuing the ministry’s work without disruption.
During the session, matters related to current programmes, administrative procedures and future priorities were discussed to provide the incoming Permanent Secretary with a clear overview of the ministry’s direction. The emphasis was placed on teamwork, continuity and adherence to the ministry’s mandate to strengthen Sarawak’s tourism sector and creative economy.
The handover concluded with the symbolic presentation of the official transition document from Datu Sherrina binti Hussaini to Mr. Morshidi bin Fredrick. The ceremony was witnessed by YB Dato Sri Haji Abd Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak, who is also the Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak. His presence highlighted the importance of stable leadership in driving government policies and ensuring effective service delivery to the people.
In his remarks, the minister expressed confidence in the ministry’s senior management and conveyed his appreciation for the outgoing Permanent Secretary’s service, while welcoming the new Permanent Secretary to his role. The transition reflects Sarawak’s commitment to strong governance, orderly leadership change and the continued progress of key sectors that contribute to the state’s social and economic development.
