SEBUYAU — PETRONAS, through its subsidiary Malaysia LNG (MLNG), reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening rural education by implementing the MLNG Smart Outreach Program at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sebuyau. The event took place on Saturday and was officiated by Sarawak Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi.
The outreach initiative, part of PETRONAS’ ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, aims to enhance educational support in rural communities. In his speech, Julaihi praised the contribution, noting that it plays a vital role in fostering the potential of students in Sebuyau.
“This meaningful contribution will continue to strengthen the level of education at SMK Sebuyau,” he said. “Our children here have great potential to become the future generation of knowledgeable, integrity-minded and innovative citizens.”
Dato Sri Julaihi also confirmed that SMK Sebuyau has been selected as one of the key beneficiaries of the outreach program in 2024. He expressed hope that PETRONAS would continue expanding such initiatives to other rural areas across Sarawak.
Highlighting infrastructure challenges, Julaihi announced his personal contribution of canopies for the school. However, with the student population now reaching 936, he acknowledged that more support is needed. He also revealed that funding under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) has been allocated to construct a new community hall for the area.
In addition to launching the program, the event included the distribution of school bags to students, a school building tour, and a visit to the renovated dormitories equipped with items donated by PETRONAS MLNG.
The CSR program reflects PETRONAS’ broader mission to uplift communities and empower the next generation through knowledge and opportunity, particularly in underserved rural regions.
