PETRONAS Awards RM28 Million in Sponsorship to 110 Top Sarawak Students

PETRONAS Awards RM28 Million in Sponsorship to 110 Top Sarawak Students

KUCHING – A total of 110 high-achieving Sarawakian students have been awarded education sponsorships worth RM28 million under the PETRONAS Powering Knowledge Education Sponsorship Programme, reinforcing the company’s commitment to nurturing future leaders and professionals from the state.

Sarawak Minister for Women, Children and Community Wellbeing, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, praised the initiative as a vital step in strengthening Sarawak’s human capital and long-term development.

“We are pleased to see PETRONAS’s continued commitment in supporting the state government’s efforts, especially in providing opportunities for Sarawak children from diverse backgrounds to pursue their dreams,” she said during the awards ceremony held in Kuching on Tuesday.

She emphasised that this sponsorship goes beyond financial aid, describing it as a platform to shape a new generation of professionals, innovators, and leaders.

“These students will not only return with academic qualifications but also carry the vision and responsibility to contribute to Sarawak’s transformation — whether in the public or private sector, digital innovation, science, or community development,” she added.

Dato Sri Fatimah also lauded PETRONAS’s long-term investment in Sarawak’s youth as a testament to shared growth and mutual development.

“This partnership isn’t just built on convenience — it’s rooted in a shared vision of uplifting Sarawak’s people and building a better Malaysia,” she said.

The 110 recipients, selected from nearly 9,000 nationwide applications, are SPM 2024 graduates chosen through a rigorous process that considered academic merit, leadership qualities, and co-curricular involvement.

They will pursue their degree studies in critical fields such as chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, economics, law, and other industry-relevant areas — either at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) or prestigious institutions in Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
