The project, valued at RM500,000, is funded through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation channelled by Miri City Council Mayor and N74 Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii.

The installation covers Piasau Garden, Kampung Piasau Utara, the Piasau Utara Industrial Area, and RPR Batu 6.

The initiative aims to improve road safety and enhance the quality of life for residents by ensuring brighter and more reliable lighting along main roads.

Mayor Adam Yii inspected the progress of the works on Friday afternoon, noting that the project reflects ongoing efforts to modernise infrastructure in the constituency.

Since 2023, similar upgrades have been carried out in Lutong, Pujut, and other surrounding areas. Over the past few years, nearly RM2 million has been allocated for street lighting improvements, resulting in the replacement of more than 1,300 units with LED technology.

LED lights were chosen for their efficiency and durability. They provide brighter illumination while consuming significantly less electricity, almost half compared to traditional lighting systems.

This not only reduces operational costs for local authorities but also contributes to environmental sustainability.

Mayor Yii emphasised that the project is part of a broader strategy to enhance public safety, particularly for road users travelling at night. Improved lighting reduces the risk of accidents and helps create a safer environment for communities.

He added that the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to balancing development with the everyday needs of residents.

Infrastructure upgrades such as these are vital in ensuring that progress is felt at the grassroots level, especially in areas where safety and accessibility are priorities.

The installation of LED street lights in Piasau Jaya is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, marking another milestone in the constituency’s ongoing transformation.
