MIRI — A series of Rural Transformation Program (RTP) projects in Piasau are delivering improved facilities and safer infrastructure for local communities, with several already completed and others nearing completion.
Piasau assemblyman and Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Entertainment Arts (Tourism), Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, conducted inspections on Tuesday together with Public Works Department (JKR) officials and contractors to monitor progress.
Among the highlighted projects was the SMK St. Columba RTP 2023 initiative, valued at RM100,000, which added a 52-metre covered walkway.
The facility, completed in July 2025, one month ahead of schedule, provides shelter for students and parents during both hot and rainy weather.
Datuk Sebastian also reviewed the Kampung Senadin Jaya Community Hall project under RTP 2022, also worth RM100,000. The project transformed a former surau into a multipurpose community hall, managed by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), to better serve residents’ needs.
In Kampung Sealine Atas, two key projects have been implemented:
- The RM100,000 LED Street Lighting Installation Project (RTP 2022), completed in May 2025, featuring three floodlights and 15 LED streetlights to enhance safety and visibility.
- The RM200,000 road construction project (RTP 2024), covering 288 metres, which began in June and is expected to be completed by end-September or early October 2025.
Expressing his gratitude, Datuk Sebastian thanked contractors, JKR, and local leaders for their cooperation in ensuring that projects under the RTP bring tangible benefits to the people of Piasau. Also present during the inspection was Piasau SUPP Youth Leader, Councillor Leslie Lau.
These projects underscore Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots development through targeted RTP initiatives that improve daily living conditions and infrastructure in suburban and rural communities.
