Fatal Crash on PLUS Highway Causes 5km Traffic Jam

SEREMBAN – A fatal accident involving two vehicles at Kilometer 276 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) near Nilai to Bandar Ainsdale early Sunday morning left one person dead and caused a five-kilometre traffic jam for more than three hours.

Nilai District Police Chief, Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim, said the accident happened at around 6.50am and involved a Mitsubishi Triton and a Honda Jazz.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the Mitsubishi Triton, driven by a man in his 20s with a male friend of the same age, was travelling from Bangsar towards Seremban.

At the same time, a Honda Jazz carrying a family of four – a couple and their two children – was on its way from Seri Kembangan to Johor.

“The impact of the crash caused severe damage to both vehicles. One of the victims was confirmed dead at the scene while others sustained injuries,” he said in a statement today.

Following the accident, traffic police and PLUS highway personnel were deployed to the scene to manage traffic flow and assist in rescue operations. The affected stretch quickly became congested, with vehicles backed up as far as five kilometres.

“The road was reopened after the damaged vehicles were cleared and investigations completed. Motorists are reminded to drive carefully, especially during early morning hours when visibility and alertness may be reduced,” Abdul Malik added.

The body of the deceased was taken to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital for post-mortem examination, while the injured victims were given immediate medical treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Highway users are advised to check traffic updates before travelling and to follow safety rules to avoid further tragedies on the road.
