Sabah – Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, visited several flood- and landslide-hit areas in Sabah today to personally assess the damage and coordinate relief efforts with Federal and State Government agencies.
Among the worst-hit locations were the Teacher Education Institute (IPG) Gaya Campus and the Country Heights Penampang apartments, both of which sustained severe damage and require immediate attention. “The situation is critical. I have directed all relevant government agencies to expedite repairs and consider additional allocations where necessary. Our priority is to restore the homes and basic necessities of those affected,” said PMX Anwar during his visit.
Despite the devastation, the Prime Minister was moved by the resilience of Sabahans. At Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) in Sekolah Kebangsaan St Paul Kolopis and Kampung Sarapung, many evacuees greeted him with smiles despite having lost their homes and belongings. “It is inspiring to witness the courage of our people during this challenging time. The full machinery of the Federal and State Governments will continue working tirelessly to restore their lives as soon as possible,” he added.
PMX Anwar expressed his heartfelt appreciation to security forces, disaster management teams, and volunteers for their dedication in ensuring the safety of the affected population. Sabah Electricity personnel were commended for restoring power in the affected areas, and special condolences were extended to the late Masedeh Rosmin, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. “Your sacrifice will always be remembered,” he said.
He also praised the Chief Minister of Sabah and the State Government for their swift and continuous response since the disaster began, emphasizing that the welfare and safety of citizens remain the top priority. PMX Anwar concluded with prayers for strength and resilience for all affected families and called for a unified effort in rebuilding the communities.
The Federal and State Governments remain committed to restoring normalcy, ensuring that Sabahans can return to their homes and daily lives as quickly as possible.
