BANDAU – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Sabah voters to support candidates who prioritise unity and constructive engagement with the Federal Government, stressing that divisive politics offers no benefit to the state.
Speaking at the Bandau State Assembly, Anwar joined the local community in support of Zaidi Jatil, described as a youthful voice now leading the Pakatan Harapan campaign in the constituency.
He emphasised that political power must be translated into meaningful change rather than anger or hostility.
“We do not want a mob that is now venting its anger as if we did nothing,” Anwar said, urging voters to reflect on the progress achieved under the current administration.
He pointed to the government’s efforts in advancing Sabah’s long-standing claim to 40 per cent of federal revenue and the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as evidence of firm political will.
The Prime Minister argued that these achievements demonstrate the administration’s commitment to Sabah’s rights, contrasting them with previous governments.
He insisted that constructive dialogue with Putrajaya is the only way to secure lasting benefits for the state.
Anwar also underscored the importance of supporting candidates who represent the aspirations of the people without sowing discord between Sabah and the Federation.
He warned that leaders who promote conflict risk undermining progress and weakening Sabah’s position in negotiations with the Federal Government.
The Bandau event highlighted the role of younger leaders such as Zaidi Jatil in shaping Sabah’s political landscape.
His campaign under Pakatan Harapan has been framed as a platform for youth empowerment and a call for policies that deliver tangible improvements to communities.
Observers note that Anwar’s remarks reflect a broader theme in Sabah politics: balancing local demands with national cooperation.
The Prime Minister’s appeal comes as campaigning intensifies ahead of the state election, where issues of federal-state relations and Sabah’s rights under MA63 remain central to voter sentiment.
With the election approaching, Anwar’s message reinforces the government’s stance that unity and constructive engagement are essential for Sabah’s future.
Voters in Bandau and across the state will decide whether this approach resonates with their vision for progress and stability.
