BEDONG – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended the Annual Government Grant Presentation Ceremony and the Temu Anwar dialogue session at AIMST University in Bedong, Kedah, where he underscored the importance of justice and equality in shaping Malaysia’s future.
Speaking before thousands of students, Anwar reminded the audience that a nation’s progress cannot be measured solely by economic growth, investment or job creation.
Instead, he stressed that the true measure of development lies in ensuring fairness and dignity for all levels of society.
He drew inspiration from historical figures such as B.R. Ambedkar, who rose from marginalised circumstances to champion justice and equal opportunities, and Mahatma Gandhi, who reminded the world that “this world is enough to meet the needs of all, but it will never be enough to satisfy the greed of a few.”
Anwar said these lessons remain relevant in guiding Malaysia towards a society built on kindness, respect and moderation.
The Prime Minister urged young people to reject divisive politics and racist sentiments, calling instead for fresh idealism rooted in knowledge, unity and justice.
“The younger generation must come forward with fresh idealism, reject the politics of hatred and racism, and determine the future of the country based on knowledge, unity and justice,” he said.
As part of the government’s commitment to education, Anwar announced that AIMST University will continue to receive its annual grant of RM25 million.
In addition, the allocation has been increased by RM1 million to assist more students from underprivileged families in accessing higher education.
He also expressed appreciation to the late Tun S. Samy Vellu for his role in establishing AIMST University, noting that the institution has become a vital platform for nurturing Malaysia’s future leaders.
“The future of the country lies in the hands of young people. Take advantage of this educational opportunity to elevate the dignity of yourself, society and the country,” Anwar concluded.
The event, held in an open and engaging atmosphere, reflected the government’s MADANI vision of balancing economic progress with social justice, ensuring that development benefits all Malaysians.
