KUCHING – The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, together with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, visited the Sukma Ria Ramadan Bazaar in Petra Jaya on Friday evening, joining local residents in the vibrant atmosphere of the popular Ramadan destination.
Their arrival was warmly received by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Junaidi, and Datuk Hajah Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali. The leaders toured several stalls, sampling delicacies and engaging with traders and visitors.
Among the dishes offered at the bazaar were traditional favourites, such as umai, bongkol, and sambal ikan masin, which continue to draw crowds during the fasting month. The bazaar has long been a focal point for the community, providing a lively space for residents to purchase food for iftar.
The Prime Minister highlighted the perseverance of traders, noting that their efforts form an essential part of the people’s economic ecosystem. He assured that the government would continue to strengthen support for small businesses, helping them remain resilient and grow.
“The perseverance of the traders who continue to try to move the small economy is the important lifeblood of the people’s economic ecosystem, and the government will continue to strive to strengthen support so that they are resilient and grow,” said Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The visit also reflected the government’s commitment to engaging directly with communities, by recognising the role of grassroots economic activity in sustaining livelihoods. The Premier and Prime Minister’s presence at the bazaar further enlivened the Ramadan atmosphere, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness during the holy month.
Local residents expressed appreciation for the leaders’ visit, noting that their presence demonstrated the value of supporting small traders and celebrating cultural traditions. The Sukma Ria Bazaar remains one of the most popular Ramadan destinations in Kuching, drawing crowds daily for its wide variety of food and festive ambience.
