Police Take Action Against Illegal Racing in Kuching

Police Took Action Against Illegal Racing in Kuching

KUCHING, May 12 – A special operation conducted by the Kuching District Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division has brought a sense of safety and relief to road users after five local men, aged between 18 and 20, were arrested for suspected illegal street racing activities.

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the operation took place from 11.00 pm on May 11 until 5.00 am on May 12. It was led by a senior police officer, assisted by seven personnel, and focused on several hotspot areas including Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakob, Jalan Tun Salahuddin, Jalan Gersik, and the Masja area.

“The main objective of this operation was to curb illegal street racing and ensure that road users comply with traffic laws and regulations,” said Alexson.

He explained that the five individuals were arrested under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding. Additionally, three motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the same Act due to illegal modifications and are being held for further inspection.

In total, 18 individuals and 18 motorcycles were inspected during the operation. Police also issued 31 summonses for various traffic offences, including illegal modifications, license issues, and other safety-related violations.

ACP Alexson emphasized that such enforcement operations will continue regularly to deter street racing and irresponsible driving.

“We urge all road users to always drive safely and responsibly. Avoid involvement in illegal racing and do not modify your vehicles unlawfully. Reckless behaviour endangers not only the lives of other road users but your own as well,” he added.

This ongoing effort by the police aims to maintain peace and order on Kuching roads, ensuring that law-abiding citizens feel secure in their daily travels.
