The three-day event, held in conjunction with the rebranded Sarikei Festival, drew over 1,500 visitors and was officially closed by Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment of Sarawak, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, who is also the Kuala Rajang assemblyman (ADUN).

In his closing remarks, Datuk Len highlighted the natural suitability of Sungai Rajang for water sports.
“Rajang River is not just a river path but it is a symbol of community relations, trade and heritage,” he said. “Its calm and stable current offers not only thrilling technical challenges for racers but also a visually stunning spectacle for spectators.”

He proposed the powerboat race be elevated to an annual fixture on Sarikei’s events calendar, suggesting improved infrastructure and facilities to support future large-scale water sports events.

Datuk Len also spoke on the strategic rebranding of the former Pineapple and Fruit Festival to the broader Sarikei Festival, designed to reflect a more dynamic blend of sports, culture, agriculture and entertainment.
“This is a revival of spirit — a blend of heritage and modern elements, making the Sarikei Festival more attractive to all communities and tourists,” he said.

Beyond the water race, Sarikei Festival 2025 showcased vibrant cultural performances, agricultural showcases, family-friendly activities and local competitions, underscoring Sarikei’s growing appeal as a tourism and event destination.
