KUCHING – Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg has officiated the Eat More Local Fruits Campaign and Rice Taste Test Programme, underscoring the state’s commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles and supporting local agriculture.
The ceremony took place on the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) premises following the Premier’s closing speech at the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly.
The initiative highlights the importance of encouraging greater consumption of locally grown fruits, which play a vital role in boosting nutrition, supporting farmers, and strengthening Sarawak’s agricultural economy.
The campaign is part of broader efforts to raise awareness about the benefits of local produce. By promoting fruits cultivated within Sarawak, the government aims to reduce reliance on imports, enhance food security, and provide farmers with stronger market opportunities.
The Premier’s involvement in the launch reflects the administration’s emphasis on integrating health, agriculture, and economic development.
The Rice Taste Test Programme, held alongside the fruit campaign, also seeks to showcase the quality and diversity of Sarawak’s rice varieties.
This initiative is designed to encourage consumers to appreciate locally produced rice, which contributes to sustaining traditional farming practices and supporting rural livelihoods.
Officials noted that the campaign aligns with Sarawak’s wider agenda of promoting sustainable agriculture and healthy living.
By encouraging citizens to consume more local fruits and rice, the government hopes to foster greater appreciation for homegrown produce while simultaneously strengthening the agricultural supply chain.
The Premier’s presence at the launch further emphasised the state’s commitment to community well-being.
Initiatives such as these are expected to contribute to Sarawak’s long-term goals of improving food resilience, supporting farmers, and encouraging healthier dietary habits among the population.
As Sarawak continues to advance its development agenda, campaigns that integrate health, agriculture, and sustainability are likely to play a central role in shaping the state’s future.
The Eat More Local Fruits Campaign and Rice Taste Test Programme represent practical steps towards achieving these objectives while also reinforcing the importance of community participation in building a healthier and more resilient society.
