Premier of Sarawak Joins 11th Malaysian-Singapore Delegation Meeting in Putrajaya

PUTRAJAYA, 7 Jan: The Premier of Sarawak, Senior Datuk Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, participated in the 11th Malaysian-Singapore Leaders Settlement Meeting held at Kompleks Perdana Putra today. The high-level meeting was chaired by Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and attended by the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong.

The key highlight of the meeting was the exchange of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone Joint Agreement (JS-SEZ). The signing of this agreement marks a significant step in enhancing economic ties between the two nations. Additionally, the leaders sealed six memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and one Letter of Intent (LOI). These agreements span a range of crucial areas, including education, women and social welfare, climate change, carbon capture and storage, urban development, and efforts to combat cross-border crime.

Following the meeting, Premier Abang Johari attended a joint media conference alongside the leaders of Malaysia and Singapore. In the afternoon, he joined the delegation from both governments for a working lunch, where key discussions took place to further strengthen bilateral relations.

In a further development, Premier Abang Johari held a private meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss ongoing and future collaboration between Malaysia and Singapore. He is expected to remain in the capital until January 9, 2025, with plans to attend the upcoming Malaysia Economic Forum on Thursday.

Notable figures present at the event included Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek, and other key ministers such as Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, and Rafizi Ramli.
