MIRI – The Sarawak Government has completed a premix parking upgrade project at Riam Methodist Kindergarten, easing traffic congestion and improving safety for students and parents.
The initiative was carried out under the Riam Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and officially concluded on 20 October 2025, following its commencement on 4 July 2025.
The newly built parking facility can now accommodate up to 30 vehicles, significantly reducing congestion during peak school hours.
Transport Minister and Senadin State Assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin explained that the project was undertaken after repeated requests from parents and the kindergarten itself.
He noted that prior to the upgrade, parents were forced to stop along the narrow roadside shoulder when dropping off or collecting their children, creating traffic bottlenecks and safety hazards.
“Based on requests from kindergartens and parents, we have implemented several improvement projects, including the construction of new parking lots using premix, replacing fences and building upgrade works,” he said during a site visit and officiating ceremony on Tuesday.
The kindergarten, which accommodates more than 200 pupils, had long faced traffic challenges due to limited space. The new parking area is expected to provide smoother traffic flow and a safer environment for young learners.
Headmaster Ng Nguk Chin expressed gratitude for the government’s support, highlighting that the project has brought relief to both staff and parents.
Local leaders, including Kapitan Jee Kee Hiong and Councillor William Sim, were also present at the event, reflecting strong community involvement in the initiative.
The project underscores the government’s wider commitment to enhancing early childhood education facilities across Sarawak.
By investing in infrastructure improvements, authorities aim to ensure that schools and kindergartens provide not only quality education but also safe and orderly surroundings for children.
Such efforts align with broader development goals in the Senadin constituency, where infrastructure upgrades are being prioritised to meet the needs of growing communities.
The completion of the Riam Methodist Kindergarten parking project demonstrates how local requests are being translated into tangible improvements that directly benefit families.
Parents welcomed the initiative, noting that the new parking space has already made daily routines more manageable.
For many, the project represents more than just a physical upgrade; it is a sign of the government’s responsiveness to community concerns and its commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment for future generations.
