Mayor Wee Hong Seng Launches PROSPER 2.0 Mental Health Series in Kuching

KUCHING – The Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Dato Wee Hong Seng, in his role as Advisor to the Mental Health Association Sarawak (MHAS) Kuching Branch, officially launched PROSPER 2.0, a year-long community mental health seminar series.

Building on the success of PROSPER 1.0, this initiative extends support to caregivers, families, seniors, and youth, focusing on sustained engagement, practical guidance, and early intervention strategies to strengthen community resilience.

Mayor Wee highlighted that mental health is not only a medical issue but also a family and community responsibility. Supporting caregivers, he noted, strengthens families and contributes to a more resilient Kuching.

Key objectives of PROSPER 2.0 include:

  • Continuous support for communities throughout 2026
  • Tools for early identification of mental health challenges
  • Daily coping strategies for families and caregivers
  • Strengthening resilience at the community level

The launch also marked the start of the BRACE Workshop on Trauma-Informed Practice, designed to equip professionals with compassionate care skills to better serve the community.

Mayor Wee expressed gratitude to the Majlis Pembangunan Sosial Sarawak for funding the expanded outreach and thanked MHAS committees, volunteers, and media partners for their dedication, calling them the backbone of the initiative.

He reaffirmed MBKS’s commitment to building a caring, inclusive, and healthy city where no one is left behind. “With great pleasure, I hereby declare the PROSPER 2.0 Community Mental Health Seminar Series 2026 officially launched,” he said.

The programme reflects Sarawak’s wider vision of community empowerment, resilience, and inclusivity, ensuring mental health awareness remains a priority throughout the year.
