SIMANGGANG – Members of the Sarawak People’s Party (PRS) have been urged to work collectively to reinforce the party’s position and expand its grassroots reach.
Speaking at the Simanggang Zone Pre-Christmas Celebration 2025 Dinner held at the Seri Simanggang Hotel on Saturday, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department and PRS President, highlighted the importance of unity and membership growth across divisions.
He encouraged each division to aim for at least 3,000 members, stressing that a stronger membership base would enhance the party’s machinery and influence at the community level.
“I hope each division can target at least 3,000 members to strengthen the party’s strength and machinery at the grassroots level,” he said.
Dato Sri John Sikie also called for more professionals and experts to join PRS, noting that their expertise and fresh ideas could contribute significantly to the party’s mission and to Sarawak’s overall development.
He emphasised that the inclusion of diverse talents would strengthen the party’s ability to address challenges and support the state’s progress.
The PRS President expressed gratitude to members and delegates for their support during the recent Triennial Delegates’ Conference (TDC), which reaffirmed his leadership.
He said the confidence shown by party members motivates him to continue steering PRS towards greater unity and resilience.
The dinner was attended by several prominent figures, including Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Deputy Digital Minister; Datuk Mong Dagang, Bukit Begunan State Assemblyman and Chairman of the Dinner Organising Committee; as well as community leaders, party representatives, and members of the public from the Sri Aman Division.
The event served not only as a festive gathering, but also as a platform to reinforce the party’s commitment to strengthening its grassroots presence.
Attendees were reminded that collective effort and loyalty remain vital for PRS to maintain its relevance and influence in Sarawak’s political landscape.
PRS, a component party of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), has long played a role in representing rural communities and advocating for development initiatives. The call for increased membership reflects the party’s strategy to consolidate its base and prepare for future political challenges.
The evening concluded with fellowship among members and supporters, underscoring the importance of unity and collaboration in sustaining the party’s momentum.
