MIRI – Residents of Jalan Pujut 4 now enjoy improved safety and connectivity following the completion of a road resurfacing and bridge reinforcement project under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
The initiative, executed in collaboration with the Miri City Council (MBM), addressed a 300-metre road section and a 40-metre wooden bridge, both previously prone to flooding and structural hazards.
The upgrades resolve long-standing issues faced by the community, including frequent flash floods that disrupted daily commutes and damaged vehicles. Locals reported that students previously had to navigate floodwaters to reach schools, exacerbating travel risks.
“Now that the road has been resurfaced, and the bridge strengthened, we finally feel safe and thankful,” one villager remarked. Another resident noted the project had been highly anticipated, significantly enhancing daily convenience.
Pujut Assemblyman and Miri City Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing infrastructure that directly benefits communities.
“The smiles and satisfaction of the rakyat are our greatest motivation,” he stated during the project’s handover ceremony. Village Head Fauzi Abdullah also attended the event, representing local stakeholders.
This project aligns with broader infrastructure developments across Sarawak, including bridge upgrades in Pujut and road enhancements aimed at improving regional connectivity.
The state’s ongoing investments in infrastructure, such as the Marina Bridge in Miri, reflect a strategic focus on boosting safety, accessibility, and economic growth.
