Pusa to Host Pineapple Collection Centre as Part of Sarawak’s Agricultural Push

PUSA – A new pineapple collection centre will be constructed in Pusa to support and expand the local pineapple industry, in a move that underscores the Sarawak Government’s commitment to boosting agriculture-based economic development.

Beting Maro State Assemblyman (ADUN) Razaili Gapor said the initiative will facilitate greater market access and improve yields for pineapple growers in the region.

Speaking during a dialogue session with Pusa Zone Pineapple Growers on Saturday, Razaili emphasised that the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) has been allocated targeted funds to support agricultural growth, including pineapple farming.

“I’m committed to helping pineapple entrepreneurs grow this sector. It holds significant potential and can offer substantial income if managed diligently,” he said.

Razaili also highlighted that the Sarawak Government has allocated RM1.5 billion for Betong Division, with RM200 million earmarked for the Beting Maro area.

Key allocations include:

  • RM10 million for a riverbank development project in Pusa
  • RM25 million to construct a sports complex for local youth and community activities
  • RM15 million for Apong and Nipah industry development in Tambak Village, Pusa

He expressed appreciation to all local pineapple growers for their time and active participation in the engagement session.

“Your dedication and collaboration are vital for the success of this sector. Together, we can uplift the economic standing of our communities,” Razaili added.

The establishment of the pineapple collection centre is expected to streamline the supply chain and further enhance the quality and marketability of Sarawak-grown pineapples.
