The reptile’s presence raised concerns for the safety of the occupants, prompting an urgent call to the Malaysian Civil Defence Force Lubok Antu branch (APM Lubok Antu).

Responding swiftly, the MyASPA-O Bravo team, consisting of four members, arrived at the scene equipped with specialised tools.

Using pinching and snaring techniques, the officers managed to subdue and capture the python without incident.

The operation was carried out smoothly, and no injuries were reported. Officials confirmed that two individuals were safeguarded from potential danger during the intervention.

The Civil Defence Department has emphasised that while pythons are non-venomous, they can still pose risks if not handled properly.

Residents are reminded to avoid approaching such animals and to immediately contact authorities for assistance.

APM has reiterated its commitment to public safety, stressing that vigilance in residential areas is crucial, particularly as snake sightings have become more common in Sarawak.

Recent reports indicate that snake encounters are not isolated incidents. Earlier this year, APM Lubok Antu successfully removed a python from a local shop in Acham Store, while another capture was recorded in Wong Panjai in January.

Nationwide, the Civil Defence Force handled approximately 140,000 snake-related emergencies in 2025, underscoring the scale of the issue across Malaysia.

Officials attribute the rise in such cases to factors including urban expansion and changing weather patterns, which drive reptiles into populated areas.

The Civil Defence Force continues to remind the public that professional intervention is the safest course of action when encountering wildlife.

Residents in Lubok Antu can reach the district APM office at 083-584639 or dial 999 in emergencies. Authorities encourage communities to remain alert and to report unusual wildlife sightings promptly to prevent accidents.
