Quick Action Saves Pharmacy from Fire at Jalan Kuching-Serian

KUCHING, 9 APRIL 2025 – A minor fire that broke out at a pharmacy in Siburan was quickly brought under control early this morning, thanks to the swift action of nearby workers and support from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

The incident occurred at Alpro Pharmacy located along Jalan Kuching-Serian. According to a statement from the Sarawak JBPM Operations Centre (PGO), they received an emergency call at 6.36am. Firefighters from the Siburan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Operations Commander, PBK II Saiful Ismail Othman, confirmed that the fire involved computer equipment on the counter and the ceiling air conditioning unit.

What stood out was the heroic quick response by employees from the nearby CCK supermarket, who managed to extinguish the fire using portable fire extinguishers before the firefighters arrived.

“No injuries or casualties were reported,” he said, adding that the fire was small but could have escalated without early intervention.

Firefighters who arrived shortly after performed follow-up extinguishing using an auxiliary hose to ensure no hidden embers remained. The situation was fully under control and declared safe soon after.

Also present at the site was PPgB Muhammad Imran Mohamad Sabri, Head of the Siburan BBP Station, overseeing the operation.

The cause of the fire and the estimated cost of damages are still under investigation by the relevant authorities.
