SARATOK, 11 April: A house in Taman Miniata was nearly destroyed this afternoon, but thanks to the swift action of local residents, the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), and the Civil Defence Force (APM), the flames were brought under control just in time.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre (PGO) confirmed that the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) received the emergency call at 2.48 pm. A team of eight firefighters, led by Senior Fire Officer I Nasir Drahman, rushed to the scene.

Upon their arrival, the firefighting team found that the single-storey terraced house was already 40% engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the house was unoccupied at the time, and the hot weather further intensified the blaze.

“The Operational Response Team (PKO) quickly assessed the scene using full personal protective equipment (PPE) and launched the extinguishing operation using two auxiliary hoses and a 100-foot water stream,” JBPM Sarawak said in a statement.
The coordinated efforts between firefighters, neighbours, and APM members ensured that the fire was successfully controlled before it could spread to nearby homes. Their quick response and teamwork helped prevent further destruction in the residential area.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
This incident highlights the importance of community readiness, early response, and strong cooperation during emergencies, especially in residential areas where lives and properties are at risk.
