Quick-Thinking Firefighters Save Sibu House from Spreading Blaze

Quick-Thinking Firefighters Save Sibu House from Spreading Blaze

SIBU, 3 May 2025 – A fast and efficient response by the Sibu Fire and Rescue Department prevented a fire from engulfing an entire double-storey house on Jalan Nan Sang this morning.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO), an emergency call was received at approximately 9.43am reporting the fire. Within minutes, a team of 11 firefighters, along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle and a support unit, were dispatched to the scene.

“The Operations Commander (KO) confirmed that the fire had broken out in a bedroom on the upper floor of a two-storey permanent structure. About 30 percent of the top floor was affected,” the department said in a statement.

The firefighters acted swiftly, applying both offensive and defensive firefighting techniques using a 200-foot water stream and two nozzles to control the flames. Thanks to their rapid intervention, the blaze was successfully contained and extinguished before it could spread to the rest of the house.

The operation was fully wrapped up by 10.45am.

“All four occupants — two adult men and two adult women — managed to escape unharmed,” the statement added.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but early indications suggest that prompt reporting and the department’s fast response were crucial in preventing more severe damage or potential casualties.

This incident highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and the professionalism of our local fire brigade, whose dedication and skill often go unnoticed until moments of crisis.
