KUCHING, 17 May 2025 – A homeowner in Taman Boxhill, Lorong Boxhill Penrissen 1 here managed to prevent a potentially destructive fire from spreading by acting swiftly with a hosepipe, even before the arrival of firefighters.
The incident, which happened in the SL-50 residential area, occurred around 1.16pm when the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call. A team from the Kota Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was quickly dispatched to the scene.

Operations Commander PBK II Mohd Azwad Perseh said that firefighters arrived within five minutes, at 1.21pm, and found that the fire had already been brought under control by the resident.
“The fire involved electrical appliances and kitchen equipment located at the back of the house. Fortunately, the homeowner managed to use a hosepipe to put out the flames before our team arrived,” he said in a statement.
Following the successful suppression of the fire, the Bomba team conducted thorough monitoring and ventilation operations to ensure the area was safe and free of residual smoke.
No injuries were reported, and the operation was fully under control by 1.40pm before ending at 1.56pm.
This incident highlights the importance of remaining calm and taking prompt action in emergencies, especially when it comes to household fires. However, authorities also advise the public to contact emergency services immediately and to never put themselves in unnecessary danger when dealing with electrical or kitchen fires.
Bomba reminds residents to regularly inspect kitchen appliances and wiring to prevent similar occurrences, especially with the increasing use of electrical devices in daily cooking.
