Rangau Valley Development Set to Transform Limbang’s Growth

LIMBANG – The Rangau Valley project has been identified as a major catalyst for future growth in Limbang, with plans for modern housing, an integrated administrative centre, and commercial development designed to strengthen the town’s role as a strategic hub.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg explained that the project was initially developed under the Federal Government but faced challenges due to designs that were not suited to buyers. The Sarawak Government later took over the initiative, redeveloping it with a focus on quality and community comfort.

“Alhamdulillah, today we can see replacement houses for houses that were developed before with a better and planned environment,” he said during a site visit to the Limbang Integrated Administrative Centre (IAC) and the Rangau Valley Housing Project.

Key components of the development include the IAC, commercial facilities such as hotels, and improved connectivity to Limbang town. The township is being designed with a low-carbon concept, reflecting Sarawak’s broader commitment to sustainable development.

“Rangau Valley is located in the middle between old Limbang, current Limbang and new Limbang, making it a strategic growth centre,” the Premier noted.

He assured that original buyers of homes in the area would continue paying their existing loans despite the rise in market value, which now ranges between RM353,000 and RM361,000.

This approach, he said, reflects Sarawak’s emphasis on quality housing rather than high-density developments that compromise residents’ comfort.

Infrastructure expansion is also central to the plan. The Premier announced that Limbang Airport will be upgraded to accommodate larger aircraft, including Boeing jets.

Through the Air Borneo initiative, three Boeing planes are expected to begin operations by July, connecting Sarawak with Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Kota Kinabalu, and Jakarta.

The expansion is expected to support the growth of health tourism, with new hospitals planned in Batu Lintang and Terubun Jaya. These facilities will be equipped with modern medical technology and expertise, enhancing healthcare services in the region.

Abang Johari expressed appreciation to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), project managers, and contractors for overcoming challenges in delivering the development.

He emphasised that the Rangau Valley project represents a new chapter in Limbang’s growth, combining housing, infrastructure, and economic opportunities in a sustainable framework.

The event was attended by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Deputy Premier Dr Sim Kui Hian, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, and HDC Chairman Abdul Yaakub Arbi. Their presence underscored the significance of the project for Sarawak’s future development.

With Rangau Valley positioned between old, current, and new Limbang, the project is expected to serve as a bridge for growth, ensuring that the town evolves into a modern, sustainable, and economically vibrant centre.
