RM1,000 Flood Relief Aid for Sarawak Victims to Be Distributed Soon

KUCHING: Flood victims across Sarawak can breathe a sigh of relief as the RM1,000 financial aid per Head of Household (KIR) will be distributed soon. Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, assured that the aid will be handed out through the District and Resident Offices, benefitting 4,966 affected households statewide.

“This assistance will be disbursed quickly as the allocation has already been received. We are now waiting for the final list to be confirmed,” said Uggah during a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Thursday.

He added that the government had earlier pledged RM1,000 for each household relocated to the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS), as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof. A total of RM2.8 million has been allocated for this purpose and transferred to the Sarawak Government for distribution.

The announcement was made during the Sarawak Flood Disaster Assistance 2025 Handover Ceremony organized by the National Welfare Foundation (YKN). Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development and YKN Chairwoman, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, officiated the handover event.

On the extent of the flood damage, Uggah stated that a comprehensive report will be tabled at the next Sarawak cabinet meeting, as instructed by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

“The report will be presented to the Prime Minister’s Office and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to inform them of the overall damage. This includes schools, clinics, houses, hospitals, and roads affected by the floods,” he added.
