RM1,200 Aid Help Desk for Sarawak Students on May 8 by SUPP Kuching Branch

KUCHING, May 7: Good news for Sarawakian students! The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch will set up a special service counter tomorrow (May 8) to assist students in applying for the government’s RM1,200 Special Financial Assistance.

The assistance counter will operate from 6pm to 9pm at Life Café, Jalan Padungan. This initiative, called the ‘Evening Community Service Counter’, aims to bring important services closer to the people, especially those who cannot attend during regular office hours.

SUPP Kuching Branch Youth Chief, Nicholas Wung, said this programme is a part of their community outreach to help students navigate the application process. He reminded students that the application period is from May 1 to June 1, 2025. Successful applicants will receive RM600 first, and can reapply in September for the next round.

To apply, students need to bring softcopies of the following:

  • Applicant’s MyKad (IC)
  • Parents’ MyKad
  • University offer letter
  • Sarawak ID

For those with employed parents, a latest salary slip will be required. Parents who are self-employed, unemployed, or business owners can get their income verification letter prepared on-site. A Kapitan will be present to verify documents, and SUPP volunteers will help complete everything on the spot.

Aside from financial aid support, SUPP will also provide:

  • Kenyalang Gold Card registration
  • OKU (Persons with Disabilities) registration
  • Social welfare application support
  • Free legal consultation

Nicholas Wung, who is also a practising lawyer, will personally offer legal advice during the event.

“This evening service is for those who are busy during the day. We want to make sure no eligible student misses out on this support,” Wung said, urging all eligible students and families to attend.

SUPP Kuching Branch hopes this event will make the application process easier, faster, and stress-free for all residents.
