RM15 Million Service Centre Planned for Batu Lintang, Sri Aman

SIMANGGANG – A new RM15 million service centre is set to be developed in Batu Lintang, Sri Aman, as part of government efforts to enhance public service delivery and support future growth in the division.

The proposal was discussed during a dialogue session at the Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA) Meeting Room, which brought together government officials, private-sector representatives, community leaders and shop owners.

The session was chaired by Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, who also serves as the Simanggang Assemblyman.

Datuk Francis explained that the project is timely, given the presence of oil palm plantations, schools and three newly approved border posts in Batu Lintang. “I want the new Batu Lintang Service Centre to be operational before the construction plans for the three border posts begin and are completed in the future,” he said.

A presentation during the dialogue outlined the project’s scope, which includes 10 double-storey shop lots and a tamu market on a two-acre site. The development is expected to provide new commercial opportunities and improve access to essential services for residents.

Sri Aman Division Land and Survey Superintendent Michaelson Nyisin highlighted that Batu Lintang’s population is estimated at nearly 4,000 people, underscoring the need for improved facilities.

Current amenities include a clinic, small churches, immigration and customs offices, three shops, the Wong Pupu waterfall, 32 longhouses, three primary schools and a police station.

Michaelson added that the proposal was first submitted in 2017 and later approved on 3 December 2024 during the SADA Steering Committee Meeting. However, the implementation date will only be confirmed once outstanding matters involving three affected shop owners are resolved.

The new service centre is expected to serve as a hub for commerce and community activities, complementing existing infrastructure while preparing Batu Lintang for future expansion linked to border development.

Local leaders believe the project will not only strengthen public service delivery but also stimulate economic activity in Sri Aman, positioning Batu Lintang as a more vibrant centre for residents and businesses alike.
