BAU – The completion of two government-funded projects totalling almost RM2 million has significantly boosted development in Kampung Suba Buan. The programs, which are implemented as part of the Sarawak Government’s rural development agenda, are intended to raise locals’ standard of living and improve infrastructure.
Upgrading the road between Kampung Suba Buan and Kampung Suba Bau was the main goal of the first project. The Greater Kuching Development Coordination Agency (GKCDA) provided funding for the two-kilometre road project, which cost RM900,000. It is anticipated that the upgraded road will facilitate travel, improve village connectivity, and boost local economic activity.
The Bau Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) was responsible for the second project, which was a water pipe connection scheme. In addition to funding from the RM1.8 million GKCDA clustered water pipe connection project for the Jagoi area, this initiative received RM300,000 under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP). The program guarantees consistent access to clean water, which is essential for household and community well-being.
Tasik Biru Assemblyman and Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Maritime), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, emphasised the significance of modernising essential infrastructure in rural areas, including roads, water supplies, and electricity. He pointed out that by raising living standards and convenience, these upgrades directly benefit locals.
Additionally, Henry declared that since the villagers in Kampung Suba Buan possess land title documents, they are now qualified to apply for the People-Friendly Housing Program (Program Rumah Mesra Rakyat, RMR). This program helps rural families overcome the difficulties of renting or purchasing a home in an urban area by offering affordable housing options.
He went on to say that the Greater Bau Action Plan, which has been in place for almost ten years and has been successful in promoting sustainable growth, gives infrastructure development precedence over land grants. Before pursuing more expansive development opportunities, the strategy makes sure that communities have solid foundations.
Several important officials, including GKCDA Chief Executive Officer Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, JBALB Sarawak Divisional Assistant Water Engineer Ts Siet Ung Wu, Bau District Council Secretary Ong Chin Ping, and Bau District Officer Danny Gumbang Martin Engkujang, were present at the community event where the announcement was made.
These initiatives demonstrate the Sarawak government’s continuous dedication to rural development, guaranteeing that communities like Kampung Suba Buan gain access to contemporary facilities and better living circumstances. The programs are anticipated to boost economic activity, foster inclusive development throughout Bau District, and increase community resilience.
